Citizenship and Naturalization

There are several ways for a person to become a United States citizen, most common of which are:

  • by birth, where an individual is born in the United States;

  • by acquisition at birth, when a person is born abroad to a United States citizen parent, and certain other conditions are met;

  • by operation of law, such as when a child lives as a lawful permanent resident in a custody of his or her parent, and such parent becomes a U.S. citizen before the child turns 18;

  • by naturalization, when a person makes affirmative application to become a U.S. Citizen.

Despite of their seeming simplicity, the rules pertaining to citizenship and naturalization are quite complex.  In certain cases, the immigration authorities may decide that an individual is ineligible to become a U.S. citizen, or that a person has lost his U.S. citizenship.  We will take you through the entire process, from preparing the initial application package to the final interview, and handle all communications with immigration and consular authorities.  We can represent our clients before immigration authorities anywhere in the United States and in the world.
